Before Derek died he became very concerned about what would happen to
Oliver Land if he were to be 'run over by a bus', as he always called it, so he arranged for it to become a Nature Reserve and A Place for Solitude for all time, having the sign painted to this effect and hurrying to show it to Jeannie in hospital, much to her delight, just before she died.
The Trust came into effect on Derek's death. It is a Registered Charity and is now concentrating on conserving the Oliver Land Nature Reserve. Due to Derek and Jeannie's popularity, and very personal relationship with the Minack Chronicles readers, the Trust had inevitably been drawn into a great deal of correspondence.
For the past eight years, much of the administrative burden fell upon one dedicated Trustee and it was decided reluctantly to reduce the public information role. Although unconnected with the Friends of Minack Society (FOMS), which is an entirely separate organisation, The Minack Chronicles Trust recommended that those who wish to maintain contact with other Minack Chronicles readers get in touch with the Friends of Minack Society.
FOMS has since grown in membership and now issues three newsletters per year and holds a Commemorative Weekend and "Get Together" at the Queens Hotel in Penzance on the weekend nearest to Jeannie's Memorial Day, 23rd March.
